Wüppertal April 2005
A small number of “The Phoenix Model Railway Club” members attended the large modelling exhibition and show at the westfallenhallen complex in Dörtmund, April 2005.
Along with the visit to the show two days were spent attending other attractions nearby, one of which included the Schwebebahn suspended monorail in Wüppertal.
Within this web page photographs and video can be found which illustrates this marvel of Victorian engineering still working today and still working very efficiently. Highlights to look out for include, travelling along the middle of the river Wüpper, moving down the middle of the high street and a more conventional train going over the top of the Schwebebahn whilst the monorail is at a standstill in one of its stations.
If you look at the video carefully you may just be able to notice that the whole train sways gently whilst stationary, a not too unpleasant experience. Towards the end a set can be seen pulling away from the terminus and a second set can be seen turning for the return journey.

This may not be a railway as most of you know it but it is quite unique in its operation and it is wheels on a rail!
