Phoenix
Model Railway Club started when eight people left another
local club in July 1999. We met in a member’s living
room every Saturday for a number of months, all paying
subscriptions until enough funds were built up.
We heard
of premises that would be suitable for us on what was
then RAF Quedgeley and managed to obtain a lease, and
moved in March 2000. Since
then our membership numbers have grown. We have held
a number of successful open days, and we are jointly
involved with the Cotswold Model Railway Show on a yearly
basis with the Eastcombe Scouts and Guides and Gloucester
Model Railway Club.
Membership
includes a number of ladies, disabled and different
racial background members. There are both “full” members and “social”
members. Full members own layouts at the club, where
as social members come to run their own rolling stock,
help on the layouts or just to join in the social activities.

We
also have a thriving membership, with members aged
from 7 upwards. Social
activities include barbeques in the summer, visits to
exhibitions, heritage railways and so on.
We
now have a number of exhibition standard layouts and
are showing at more and more exhibitions. The
premises we operated from for 9 years were 2700 square feet and included kitchen area,
workshop, layout storage
and toilets, We now are homeless and need premises to
continue our hobby,
